( EXCERPT - CHAPTER 1 )
Sharp pain seared through my right shoulder, a clear sign that I shouldn’t have tried to move. With the curtain drawn back, I laid in bed waiting. I watched doctors and nurses scramble back and forth while attending to other patients. That is, until a male nurse, with dirty blond hair approached my bed. Early thirties at least. Yum. A neat and trimmed facial shadow set him apart from the rest, more distinguished. Handsome man, dreamy bedroom green eyes. After a quick glance of my chart, I couldn’t help but notice the smooth and cropped chest hair that lay just below his neckline. Mmm. The arousing thought of seeing this guy naked was a great distraction for the time being.
“Collin is it? I’m Dr. Hartly,” he said flipping through the pages of my chart. “It says here your arm is broken?” His voice rumbled in a slight southern twang and carried a deep tone. “Nice shiner city slicker, I reckon the high road was a bit too much to ask of yourself?”
His country accent accentuated his sexy nature. Unfortunate for me, the pain in my arm outweighed the ascending ache in my groin. I wondered if he knew just how much his roughened exterior made him even more alluring. I’m sure I would have gotten hard if it weren’t for all the throbbing in my arm sending massive streaks of discomfort through me right now. A mere blessing in disguise I suppose. An erection would only give me away.
“You’re the doctor?” I chuckled. “My bad, I thought you were a nurse.”
“I’m a third year resident in Orthopedics,” he said. “So you can rest your pretty little worries partner. I’m more than qualified.”
I had no idea what that even meant. Didn’t care either,. Just wanted to get out of here as soon as possible. He hung the clipboard at the foot of my bed.
“You’re not from the city are you?”
“That obvious?” he asked oblivious to my way of making light conversation. “Lay back please.” While flashing a pen light over my pupils and then checking my blood pressure, the proximity of him leaning over me forced a hard swallow. “You alright there?”
“Yep, I’m good.” In truth, I wanted to lick the underside of his chin. He stood, leaning inward checking my ears, close enough that if I had lifted an inch more we could’ve shared a kiss. His cologne lingered and I imagined his body against me.
Seconds later, tender touches of his fingers were feeling over my stomach. My thoughts collided with angst as he placed his strong, warm hands on my arm. It jerked in reaction to the pressure, pain shot up my shoulder. A small hiss escaped and I bit down on my bottom lip. His attention drawn to it as I watched his fingers crawl up the length of my arm.
I put on a brave face as he prodded away, attentive for a reaction.
I jumped. “Hey! Take it easy there jelly fingers.” I exclaimed. “That shit hurts.” My condescending demeanor didn’t seem to bother him.
“I was right wasn’t I? It’s broken.”
“I thought I was the doctor,” he said with a glance at me and smiled. “No, no it’s not. Lucky for you.”
“Well if it’s not broken then why am I in so much pain?”
“It needs to be reset.”
“What needs to be reset?”
“Your shoulder,” he stated.
“Ah shit. That’s gonna hurt isn’t it?”
“I don’t reckon it’ll hurt too much. Just try not to think about the pain,” he said. “Pardon me for a second?”
“Try not to think about the pain? Are you being serious?” I swallowed and let my head fall to the pillow. “Unbelievable.”

( SNIPPET #1 )
I stepped out on my side. “This is where you wanted to bring to me? To an office building in the city?” I asked gazing up at its intimidating height. Matt led the way, a security guard met us at the front door. Keys rattling as he unlocked it.
In a winded breath Matt asked, “Gordy half an hour? Please?” The guard let a sigh. His eyes did a sweep over Matt from head to toe, as well as a quick glance my way. A dumbfounded look strayed to Matt’s half-stained shirt beneath his dinner jacket. Matt charmed him with a smile. “Don’t ask Gordy. It’s all good.”
“Half an hour Matt, that’s all. I could lose my job over this,” he said warning Matt and stood aside to let us pass.
“Don’t worry Gordy. I got your back on this one. Thanks,” Matt said, with a nodding gesture I followed him in. Matt gave the guard a friendly pat to the shoulder as we jogged passed to the elevator doors. As if I could help myself, I took pleasure seeing Matt’s muscles flex along his back, then … oh yeh down to that hot ass of his!
We stepped into the elevator. Matt glanced over without saying a word. I drew on a breath. “You gonna tell me where we’re going?” He didn’t answer. “I’ll take that as a no,” I said lifting myself on my toes and then back down again. He stayed silent and with nothing else to do, I watched the lights on the elevator buttons light up as we were lifted higher and higher.
“I saw you checking out my ass,” Matt said, mocking me still facing front.
“Conceited much?" I tried to sound uninterested but couldn’t help myself when I thought he wasn’t looking. In a small lean back, I stole another snapshot for simple pleasure. Matt’s head turned to me, my eyes flashed up. “What?”
“Right, so not looking at my ass,” Matt commented bearing a cocky grin. One button left. It lit up green as we reached the sixth floor and a soft ding chimed. “We’re here, come on perv.”
“So, how am I doing so far?” Even though I wasn’t looking at him, I could hear his smile.
A small breeze of wind rushed between us. “Well, aside from me dumping wine on you, showing up underdressed, and embarrassing you in public?” I shied away. “Then I’d say your original contributions of a whine, dine and thank you for your time is – was, very tasteful and classy. But just so you know Matt, if we hadn’t been interrupted from our kiss earlier, if that was what you planned on doing? It would have made my night … perfect. I give you an A minus for dinner and a view.”
He planted his arms out in front for support, leaning up on the wall shoulder. His foot tapping along the base of the brick. Signs of uncertainty were showing in his body language. “Maybe …”
“I’m sorry.” I interrupted. “I wasn’t thinking. I’ve probably more than over step my bounds and you may not have meant to do it all.”
After stopping him short of his thought, he stood upright and faced me. “Sean,” he said, “I see why everyone takes to you so easily. You’re funny and not too bad on the eyes.” He joked playfully. “AND … you’re a survivor. You’ve got spunk, I like that.” The curves at the ends of his mouth broadened into a handsome but brief smile.
I shied away telling him, “Thanks, but Matt I’m not sure what you’re doing.” I whipped back around, the shyness now gone and said, “I feel like you’re giving me mixed signals.” A peek down at my watch and I realized how late it was. Time to go, I had work in the morning.
“I don’t think I know what I’m doing to be honest,” Matt said half smiling. He looked away for half a second then in a bolted reaction, he took a breath and cradled my face, and pressed his lips against mine. I melted against him letting a small moan. I held my hands over his, indulging in his touch. Our breathing became intense. My arousal now heightened, intoxicated by his warm lips, and swift caressing kisses. I tilted my head to one side allowing him to snake sensuously down and along the skin of my neck. In surprise his hand reached taking handful of my hair giving a dominant tug springing my head back. My mouth gaped open as the sting subsided under his passionate kisses. Lip swabbing and tongue rolling.
“Damn Matt.” I moaned. I had to pull away in the heat of the moment, he had me very heated and aroused. My eyes, staring hard into his, as he stood silent, gently releasing his hold on me. Both of us panting but we said nothing.
Then, Matt winked and said, “How am I doing now?” I couldn’t speak. Honestly, what could I say? Thanks, for the lip lashing? Matt smiled taking me by the hand. “Close your mouth dork. Come on, I gotta get you home.”
I let a soft chuckle as I let him wisp me away like a prehistoric caveman.
